The Culinary Heritage of the Alps

This four-part film series explores Alpine food history. Public History Research was awarded a special prize for its significant contributions to heritage image and film.

Along with the acclaimed book series on the culinary heritage of the Alps, Public History Food created and produced a compelling four-part film series, directed by the Munich-based production company Megaherz. The four films — Cheese, Grain, Cattle, and Fish— were commissioned by Bavarian Television and created in collaboration with Switzerland’s three national broadcasters, featuring German, French, and Italian language editions.

The series takes viewers to the breathtaking landscapes of the Alpine region to meet fishermen, cheesemakers, hop growers, and cattle breeders. These dedicated artisans and producers uphold centuries-old traditions, nurturing heirloom varieties, preserving heritage breeds, and reviving lost specialties with passion and skill.
