Images that stand on their own
We deliberately chose the historical images for this book not as illustrations of the text. They stand on their own, independent witnesses to the history of Swiss cheese. Together with Fabian Scheffold’s exceptional photographs, they make a large-format book in which paintings, historical photographs and prints tell their own story.
Awards
Dominik Flammer, Monica Rottmeyer and Fabian Scheffold explored the revival of Swiss cheese culture in this book. The German Gastronomic Academy awarded the Goldene Feder to ‘Schweizer Käse – Ursprünge, Traditionen und neue Kreationen’ (AT Verlag) by Dominik Flammer (author), Monica Rottmeyer (historical image research) and Fabian Scheffold (photographs). The prize is given only every three to four years, for outstanding books of gastronomic literature, and this was its first return to Switzerland since 1986.
