Background
With around 4,700 employees, Johnson & Johnson ranks among the largest American employers in Switzerland. Its subsidiary Cilag AG has deep roots in the Schaffhausen region. The company began as a kind of open-air chemistry laboratory on an estate near Schaffhausen and grew into one of the pharmaceutical industry’s largest production sites for high-quality active ingredients and products.
For the anniversary magazine, Public History Research pieced the company’s history together from interviews with contemporary witnesses, source work and image research. The aim was to make its more recent history more accessible to the people who work at Cilag.
