150 Years Landqart Paper Mill

From concept to completion, Public History created an anniversary publication honouring 150 years of Landqart, the producer of Swiss banknote paper, through research, storytelling, and interviews.

Uncovering the history of a Swiss industrial legacy

From its modest beginnings as a paper mill in Grisons, Switzerland, Landqart has evolved over 150 years to become a global leader in banknote paper manufacturing — a story of Swiss innovation and industrial transformation.

Public History Research was tasked with uncovering the organization’s history, delving into thousands of forgotten images and interviewing former employees to build a detailed historical framework.

As historical consultants, Public History guided every phase of the project, from concept to completion. We tracked down archival material from former employees and created a fully structured archive from the ground up. Without a formal archive in place, we undertook the effort of recovering and organizing the fragmented pieces of the company’s history. Our efforts culminated in bringing Landqart’s remarkable journey to light for the first time in a bilingual history publication (German and English), which was launched to coincide with their 150th anniversary.
