This book uses text and images with an emotional timbre to look back one last time on this great era and also to review the carrier’s abrupt fall from grace.

Figurative marks

Milestones in the history of brands

Author: René Lüchinger
Year of publication: 2003

Publisher: Orell Füssli Verlag, Zurich
Languages (among others): German, English, French, Dutch, Romanian, Russian

From A as in Apple through to W as in WWF, this book cites twelve national and international examples to show that the success of a figurative mark can’t be designed on the drawing board. Successful figurative marks arise out of archaic rampant energies that are in most cases radiated by energetic personalities. And there’s one thing money can’t buy: the time and history which go into making up a top brand. These are what make figurative marks so valuable and render them immune to the whims of any zeitgeist.

The events are documented in this book, which was also the template for the box-office smash “Grounding. Die letzten Tage der Swissair (The last days of Swissair).»

Kampf um Sprüngli (The battle for Sprüngli)
